Why is there so much focus on the pineal/third eye?

There are distortions present which pollute this gland in the majority of the population. I believe that through the natural course of development you will be able to clear it simply as a clearing of a distortion. However as it is perceived to be the pinnacle of spiritual development for the lay population, those that are just learning about spirituality will immediately gravitate to the cleansing/opening of the third eye as the real goal.

It makes the whole fluoride debate even more interesting...
