Student asks question, teacher responds with a question or a story (or like a buddhist Kōan). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kōan

e.g., Student asks a question, teacher tells funny tale about unseemingly unconnected matter then wishes student good luck on finding answer. Student grumbles teacher did not answer question directly. Student reflects on conversation then finds his/her own answer thru the conversation.
