However, I think it may be just the opposite. That young people have the innate sense of immortality, and through conditioning discard this knowing for the "safer" belief in mortality.
Any comments on this theory?
I agree the body not only needs to be kept viable within the context of the life plan, but also respected as a life-form. I had an experience of becoming almost transparent once, and my car looking as though it was inside another car, when someone would have hit me in an intersection. I just (slowly in a trance-like state) drove through the car and away. This suggested to me that I was kept from harm, just as you said.
