hmm. That's some very interesting symbolism there Jade. I would hone in on the fact that the hardware store wouldn't take your money, and that you needed an intermediary somewhere else to facilitate the exchange.
it would seem to point to something along the lines of -
'I can't interface directly to get what I want. But I need to go through a third party'.
ie, the money represents what you are offering, and it is not the right payment type for that exchange.
