Benefits of Owning Pets

Does anyone have any experience caring for an unspayed cat/dog? Are they much harder to care for?

I love animals, but I don't want a pet if I had to spay or neuter them.

I was against getting my cat spayed for a long time, but at one point she was living in a barn and my girlfriend convinced me to get her fixed so we wouldn't risk adding to the stray cat population. When we finally took her in the vet found a huge cyst on one of her ovaries that would have caused her some major trouble down the line so it turned out to be a very good thing. Also it made her MUCH easier to care for. A cat in heat can be extremely annoying
