Wow am I coming upon some gems that I forgot about!!
This is quite the poignant statement that I think many, including myself, should remember
These words have stuck with me since I read them. It speaks greatly to the current spiritual condition of our society and makes me wonder.
The increase we have had in technology should have lessened our workload and allowed everyone in society to work less, and enjoy more leisure time. As we are right now, simple hunter/gatherers had much more free time, though they were subject to harsher conditions.
What is it that has kept us in such strict working schedules? We have continued to carry a mindset that anyone who wants to have ample time to relax, contemplate, and participate in activities they truly enjoy, is lazy.
Is this a conscious attitude that is purposefully imposed upon us by the people "at the top" who benefit most from this mindset? Or is it simply a cultural artifact that remains stubbornly within our worldview?
My own personal "awakening" came when I had a job that allowed me to not only have plenty of time for contemplation outside of work, but allowed me to enjoy beautiful country scenery and sunset as I worked. I don't think I ever would have broken the mold if I didn't have lots of time to myself and the beauty of nature to contemplate. If we utilized current technology to its potential and removed inefficiencies and redundancy from our working economy, and reduced a "full-time" work load to 25 hours a week while retaining the same pay, what sort of changes could happen?
