Portrait

Paint me in red,
Wild-eyed and bloody,
Caked and flaking under the scratching of nails,
Screaming with a primal lust for life.

Paint me in yellow,
Glowing and gilded,
With a solar smile that goes on for miles,
Squinting for the harshness of the light.

Paint me in blue,
Illuminated and distant,
Robed in the wide open sky,
Conscience clear as the endless heavens.

Paint me as you see me,
A portrait of projection,
I remain your faithful canvas,
Reflecting the colours you share with me.
