I was a little girl, no older than eight, and my father in the dream was a younger man. He told me "Honey, there's something I want you to listen to." and he played an audio recording of one of my friends being attacked and dragged away by some sort of monster. I could hear her screaming and all sorts of weird, unearthly noises. A tiny, whispered voice then suggested the monster was coming for me next.
I said "Daddy, what does it mean?" but he had suddenly become very distant and didn't seem concerned with me any longer. He said he had to go to sleep. It was after 9pm and the voice had said the attack would be at 10, and I realized he was just going to leave me by myself instead of trying to defend me from the monster. I began to hear running and thudding noises inside the house. He said it was just the weather, even though it was obviously not.
I said that if the monster came I would stab it and if it took me he could use the blood to track me down and save me. He then said he had some papers he wanted me to sign. I looked at the papers and realized he'd been recording my reactions to the monster story, saying I responded "boldly". It occurred to me that I was not a little girl and this man was not my father; he was a scientist monitoring an experiment. I then woke up.
