I had several extremely vivid dreams last night. In the first one, I found out that I would have to attend some sort of professional- or work-related conference in Copenhagen, and that I could come a few days early and spend some time exploring on my own if I wanted. I investigated further and found a great deal on a round-trip rail-and-ferry ride to some town in Sweden for just €39. So I contacted Nadia and Ankh and asked them if they would like to come over from Stockholm to visit me if I could come up and they said yes, so I made the arrangements.
As soon as I arrived in Copenhagen I dropped my bags at the hotel and hopped the train to Sweden. A buddy of mine from work came with me. When we arrived at our destination, at lunchtime, there was a large hotel attached to the train platform, and the hotel's dining room faced out right at the platform, across a foyer. We were hungry, and saw that the dining room offered a lunch buffet. My friend liked what he saw and immediately went into the dining room. Just at that moment, Ankh and Nadia arrived and greeted me, but then dashed off to do something else for a few hours, before I could even say anything to them.
Feeling alone, I strolled into the dining room to see what was on the menu. It was roasted bear meat in lingonberry sauce, and some vegetable accompaniment. Only two items, but I'm fond of bear, so I thought I'd take advantage of the opportunity. I inquired about the price, and it was €30 for just two items! With tax and tip that would run at least €40. I looked in my wallet and found I had just €32. I had come all the way to Europe with almost no cash!
After weighing the matter, I decided that my best course of action would be to use the return portion of my ticket, and just hop the train back to Copenhagen, as it was boarding for the return leg. So I went up to the fellows at the ticket counter to board, but the nice young man behind the counter pointed out to me that I was required to stay in Sweden for 5 days before I could return on that ticket. I hadn't read the fine print! I was befuddled and disgusted at this point, and ended up spending that €32 in my wallet for a ticket upgrade so I could return to Copenhagen the same day. Then the dream ended.
Edit: Oh wait, there's more, that I forgot. Now, I've actually been to Copenhagen (1981), and while a beautiful city, it doesn't have much of a skyline....most of the buildings are less than 6 stories high. But in the dream, my hotel was about 50 stories tall, and after getting back I suddenly found myself in a big room facing the elevator, way up high in the building. The other side of the room had huge curved windows looking out onto the city center (the room was roughly in the shape of a half-dome), and there were new buildings that were big, broad skyscrapers; and they must have been built by the Lego company, because they all appeared to be built out of giant Legos!
I was waiting with some people to board the elevator to get to the ground floor, when it suddenly became horrifyingly apparent to all of us, that the architect of the building, as a whimsical joke, had made that entire room the elevator, and that what appeared to be the elevator, was just a decoration to fool the eye. The room began to move up and down, and then to rotate on an axle parallel to the ground; I had been sitting on a large padded bench, and grabbed on to it for dear life, and it was good that I did, because the room rotated 360 degrees, and the other people fell about the room and smashed into the ceiling and windows. Then, when the room righted itself, it plunged at nearly free-fall speed down to the ground floor. It was then that the dream ended.
Plunging downward at breakneck speed is one metaphor that the mind uses to describe the astral body returning and re-entering the physical body during dreaming. Happens to me all the time.
