Want to learn about gem stones

I have a quick question, how does a material like crystal emanate energy to be considered alive? Is it through passing light wave energy in which the patterns of life/love/light exist? For my experiences with life I found myself to be entirely chemical consciousness, even if the chemical was an undiscovered replication of light that wasn't visible (dark matter/energy polarities). I just can't wrap my current mind around the difference any other chemical and the crystal stone that makes it "alive" so to say. Hopefully my question makes sense to someone . . . haha

I was just listening to Seth Speaks in the car on the way home not 5 minutes ago and I just thought it seemed relevant to add to the discussion (even though it doesn't answer your question):
