In my opinion, what is generally called artificial intelligence is just a bunch of very sophisticated algorithms which try to emulate what we understand of the human chemical brain behavior (and we don't understand much of it actually). That's pretty all. This is not intelligence, this could be an algorithm with an important form of autonomy, but behind it there will always be the need of a human. There will never be any consciousness in a software, it can't be. The main problem for me is that scientists do not understand at all the metaphysical aspect of life.
