Animal Sacrifice Powered Ancient Jerusalem's Economy
Motive for murder? Food for thought.
BTW, animal sacrifice is still a very common practice (and profit) for Orthodox Jews. Tens of thousands of chickens are trucked into Brooklyn, NY for Kaporos every year. While they are supposed to be donated as food for the hungry after sacrifice, most end up in the trash. Typically it costs $20 to buy a broiler chick (6 weeks old) to have swung over your head and then killed with kosher methods. These are animals that in normal market are worth maybe a dollar or two. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kapparot
Quote:Then he [Jesus] added, "Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: 'I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.' For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners." (Matthew 9:13)
