futile is more like one's efforts don't make a difference at all.  Like trying to change a planetary society that is deaf to you.

Ineffective is more the focus on the interaction itself.  Like blowing one's breath on a building, and expecting it to move.

Futile is more the lack of result; and ineffective is more the lack of ability.

There can definitely be emotional attachment/fixation on either.

I understand futile, but ineffective to me let's me see a situation where i am able to manifest the object of my will/desire, but it's not exactly what i expected. That something with my mindset or thought patterns could be changed or improved and i would do much better, but basically i am doing the right thing i just lack some experience or a more efficient approach could be used (not a total lack of my ability).

Oh and a quick edit, while ineffective might be applied to my experiences at this full moon, i hope and also think that futile isn't a good term this time. ( and never ever for that matter Smile )
