As the one who personally lived through at least 2 currencies becoming worthless and one hugely inflated, I can tell you that nobody is going to starve.
If for some reason dollar becomes worthless, it is usually replaced by another printed currency called "new dollar" or something different, and guaranteed by the current government , current people in charge.
Supply chains will be disrupted but people will not be hungry. Food is perishable, and you can't really build large supply , other than dried and strategic reserves.
Also, people immediately move to Barter Economy. And barter is a lot healthier in the regard that nobody records any transactions, they don't see your income and what you exchanged/sold/etc. = no taxes.
Usually the government and banks want immediate restoration of the law and order to start collecting taxes again. So no civil war either (unless it's financed from the outside like in cases of Colored Revolutions).
