Yes, I think that's part of it.
Each story describes a journey and how, over the course of time, it becomes apparent that the journey is magical and the journey is sacred. Each journeyer has very different characteristics from the others, yet all are on a voyage of discovery and all are beautiful. So, I'd say that one implied theme is the advice specifically given to Carla: one ought not become fixated on near term troubles and tribulations, but rather stand back and see the larger situation of your incarnation as being a precious opportunity to travel closer towards merging with the one Creator. They don't present life on Earth as a walk in the park, so to speak. And yet, attendant with the difficulty is magic, is the opportunity to subtlely connect the outer world of Earth with the inner life of Spirit: and that which connects them is the will to seek and Love. This seems to be a recurring theme in the stories.
Another common element is the lack of emphasis on cleverness or wisdom. What turns out to be wisdom is fidelity to love and seeking. And, of course, service is another theme. The contentment of the characters seemed to grow mainly through their increased ability to be of service to their fellows.
Well, these are some of the themes I would note, and they likely reflect what I might wish to see. Others may view things differently as they peek at these mirrors of the journey of self.
