Mercury and Anubis are similar in some respects. They are both guides of souls in the afterlife.
On Key 10, the red figure is Hermanubis which represents the present stage of human development, going up the wheel. The Sphinx is the perfected Self which sits atop the Wheel having mastered it and then one, in perfect harmony, with the cosmic cycle. The yellow serpent is the descent of kundalini of the One Life (serpents have to do with kundalini/cosmic electricity) into form. So the Key is dealing with involution and evolution.
