I do appreciate the catch-22 nature of being too distressed and stuck to be able to find enough self-possession to discern a pathway onward.
One thing that helps me in such a situation is to go someplace where a lot meditation is done (a temple, an ashram, a monastery or whatever) and hang out there in meditation. I find that doing so draws down my agitation--a bit at a time--which can then allow me to move freely until I wander into the next pooh pit.
The lower chakras are so rich in "fertilizer!"
