Your yearning for excitement reminds me of Freshman Physics decades ago. The professor, on rare occasions, would depart from the subject to say that, "There are things going on in this world that are far more fantastic than any science fiction." Then he might give a prediction that the world would begin making big changes, "starting in 1998" or some such year. Since it was then 1964, I just groaned.
