Regarding shielding ourselves, we have found some methods that work. For one, we had to move out of the city. Being in the city, where everyone’s energy affects everyone around them, is not easy for sensitive people. We feel overwhelmed all the time. We moved to a smaller city in the mountains, and found just being around an abundance of nature makes a huge difference on how we feel. We spend multiple hours a day sitting outside, just being one with nature or going for walks. It helps greatly to keep clear, balanced, and happy.
The physical sensitivities were easier to control when we removed most of the harsh chemicals from our life. We switched to all natural soaps that are vegan, we use shampoo and conditioner bars instead of anything with heavy chemicals, we try using products that are hypoallergenic or scent-free. We stopped talking pharmaceutical medication, we use vinegar to clean instead of heavy cleaners, we even stop wearing clothing that wasn’t soft as harsh clothing irritates our skin easily. Meditating daily also helps as we never get a very good nights rest and we feel more rested from meditation, and more clear minded.
Regarding crowds, in the city we used to walk around with headphones playing music, and it made it easier to focus and not get so overwhelmed by the energy we are absorbing. We memorize patterns and try to avoid crowds now, by going out on mornings before the majority of the population goes out. We find ways to minimize our exposure to too much energy so we can function.
For us, we have begun to learn to step into this sensitivity more recently. Our sensitivity is linked heavily to the gifts we have brought into this life, which is empathy, intuition and pattern recognition. With these gifts, we have been able to follow the pure emotions (which are much clearer to recognize once you quiet your mind) that are helping us to figure out the purpose of this lifetime, which is to love.
We have been able to use these gifts to reach out to others when we are feeling their unhappiness or discomfort, or recognize that something is not right based on a change in routine, etc. etc. But to get to this point, we have to forgive ourselves. We have no problem finding forgiveness for others, but love for ourselves has always been more of a challenge. The more we can find love for each other, the more trust we have in the gifts we have, and then are able to better utilize them for further growth, for both of us who are looking to learn and grow into something more beautiful from all this chaos.
