What is everyone's gut feeling on 2012?

This thread seems to have wandered far from "gut feelings" so I might as well put my thought into words.

The nearly never ending argument of the sudden shift vs the gradual shift into 4D. Those who think it will be in the 700 year transition period, what does 2012 actually represent to you?

My gut feeling is for some surprises in and the time after 2012, but not the sudden transition. My gut feeling is for the gradual 500 years transition.

The surprise would be, I think, the most dramatic time period of change ever, exactly as it is happening now. A few geological phenomena, conflicts, social crisis giving way to pockets of communitarian and local-based living. My first gut feeling is for both stressful but at the same time awesome inspiring years!!!

Actually, when I try to visualize myself in 2012 I see myself in nature, away from whatever may be happening, and contemplating the stars and the calm sea waters, with a couple of close ones.
