Look at it this way. The little guy had a free life. The scarred body is not abnormal for a stray cat. And the complete trust it put into a human picking it up even though it was in all essence a wounded wild cat shows that it was not abused by humans. At least it did not experience their actions as this. You could say he was alive right up till the moment he died and when that moment came he went purring. And in the hands of someone who cared for that moment at least. It's all any of us could wish for.
It could be worse right?
I doubt the critter ever felt sorry for himself.
