I had never thought of that metaphor before, Whitefeather. Thank you for sharing it. I guess from the perspective of a plant or animal cell, a digestive system is indeed an Event Horizon past which nothing can be known. Nothing need be lost but the atoms and molecules are redistributed to new uses. What a uniquely fresh way to think about this both literally and metaphorically.
