If Finland were to be invaded, you mean? Sorry, if this is a movie reference, I haven't been keeping up with those.

If Finland were to be invaded, congratulations, you're almost guaranteed asylum, and you'd probably be given work privileges Smile That's still no reason to hope that Putin invades. Even if he did, the US has Finland's back (even though Finland's not technically part of NATO, we wouldn't give any of the Baltic states to Putin, not now, anyway. We did just let Putin have Crimea in 2014, though.

Personally I don't think that we'll ever go near a 3rd World War so it doesn't really matter with worrying about any invasions and such. And if that did happen, NATO would step in even though Finland's not NATO.

IT was a reference to the terminal movie where tom hanks gets stuck in that airport when his country gets invaded.

Also as to NATO I truly and sinciriely doubt anyone in the world would raise, based on experinence, more than an eyebrow, some supplies and volunteers for finland if we went to all out war, even in justified defence, our experience as finns is that if we do get into a war, we'll be on our own, a good policy to have in my opinion, theres no reason to trust anyone would help us or me were that to happen. IF its a justified defencive war I'd probably scurry back home and sign up for the military and do my bit but thats not much in the grand scheme of things, we'd probably go out in a blaze of glory and develop some insane bioweapon or something stupid in our last throes and try to do all samson option on the world but that would probably fail miserably.

Long story short, I dont belivve the west would help is in any meaningful way, their total assitance would be less than 3 divisions of men in a army of 350.000 at start that we could put into field today and have it fully armed to western standards, one division being 8000 or so men. Reality is we'd put up a huge fight but be overrun in 3 weeks according to our own estimates and we'd evacuate the civilian population to any country that would have it but we couldnt do much under hostile air cover.

I trust the US would lend a helping hand even if NATO allies were hesitant or refused to. I've seen those infographic things before; I think there's too much at stake for us to turn a cheek, after all, you guys gave us Nightwish ... x)

and Pannukakku Smile Hey, I see you like to cook. Any traditional recipes you could recommend? I love to cook as well Smile Make sure you introduce IGW to the Finnish cuisine..

I think mämmi would be too much.

    I have a few.

Noodles, spaghetti, then put all the spices in your pantry that you have in a bowl and add different spices until its kind of bitter but tastes like a rainbow, add that to your noodle spaghetti mix, boil until not hard but not soft, then put to frying pan add lots of butter and water so its a mix between the both, then add finely ground soy that looks like mincemeat, fry until completely soft, you could also add garlic and onions like I do and then wait until its asian wok like completely soggy and burned and then consume. Some of the best hangover food ever.

Take a large bowl, add different breads and cheeses in a 50-50 mix so its half bread and cheeses, also add different vegetables and such so that no one ingredient is under represented, put in a cooking pot of the shallow type and put in the oven, cut into slices and serve like bread, put salad on top so its a bread with salad, very good food and tastes like a cheesewitch, something I invented btw. good main dish but kind of hard to prepare so it stays in shape like a bread so I would recommend serving on plate with side of salad and maybe potatos or rice. Also add the rainbow spice mentioned earlier.

Make a organic dough and cut into small lembas size pieces and put a generous portion of the spice thing this time perhaps not so spicy into the dough, the different spices add a huge amount of vitamins into the bread and it keeps you full for a long time, I call it Lembas. Elf bread for humans.

I also have a few others but those are my favorites.

Also we can hope the US would intervene, but historically that is very unlikely, this coming from when russia and communism were seen as the ultimate evil and they didnt help us much, NOT SAYING THEY DIDNT AT ALL, just train containers full of cofee and 10.000 volunteers dont count for much.

Most people say they wouldn't be able to mobilize before we're overrun, but for the sake of accuracy.

We dont have 25.000 soldiers, we have 25.000 soldier/trainers who oversee the primary reserve which is people with 1st grade military quality due to being in the active reserve and asked to retrain several times a year and have all their weapon in active storage being maintained, thats around 350.000

We have a secondary reserve without their own gear which is expected to fill the gaps in the primary reserve and will have their weapons supplied during war or the build up to it if possible, if not they'll simply do supply work for the primary reserve, they amount to 900.000

We also have a underground military which from what I've heard has at least attack helicopters, officially we dont have those but too many soldiers I know mention seeing them in huge underground storages that actually calculating what we have is nigh impossible for someone like me.

    That's probably a good thing.

Re: those recipes (btw I know we're hugely off topic here but I know this is Olio so I thought that's allowed; if I'm mistaken let me know) sound good. The mämmi actually seems like something I would try. I've made kombucha in the past and I currently am about to knead a sourdough loaf to bake tomorrow. I've never fermented any alcohol beverages or kefir but I want to get into that eventually. So far my only work with fermentation has been sourdough and kombucha. The kombucha made me feel weird; I didn't drink a lot of what I made before dumping it. It wasn't acidic enough to be safe imo. Thanks for those recommendations! I love world cuisine. The bread and cheese thing sounds really good.

One thing I want to get into (but have yet to have the money or time to really get into: sous-vide. Seems ultra ... pretentious ... but I really want to try it. Some recipes seem completely bomb (in the good way).

I landed safely and am now in murica, I ate a hamburger from whataburger, a place ive never eaten at before, got to know 2 of the three dogs, did a short visual inspection of the house, took a bath and slept on the couch, now planning to spend the day touring the city with gemini, we seem to get along well and our sense of humour seems compatible, this feels like a better choice than most alternatives.

I'm taking my psych meds for now to see how much I feel like I need, the prescribed dose is far too high for me and makes me feel like a drugged out vegetable so we'll see when the anxiety shows up and how much I may need to contain it, this seem to be going well, the dogs are nice, especially the big black one.

Landed in the US yesterday and spent a night here, I like the place even if its a bit messy. The garden has bunnies that occasionally wander to you, not domesticated and other wildlife as well. Its kinda of idylic and calm so its a nice place to spend the time. Ate a hamburger, visited walmart, bought some local food, befriended the dogs and talked with gemini and his mom, thus far its been interesting.

Dont mean it in a insulting way, the thing is that most houses like this in Finland wouldnt have 2 good quality cars and a acre of property so the price comes to roughly the same, it takes some getting used to but its clearly a cultural thing, people here prefer to have large outdoor spaces they can play and woam in and dont care about their houses the same way, i noticed it in my trip to the new england region 10 years ago too so its not something i thought was news, i was just a bit culturally shocked but its very good for me to see new places and see just how butt retentive our people back in finland are about keeping their appartments clean its insane, i think i midly prefer this style, dunno yet.

Perhaps calling it a cottage would be in the same range, i just felt hovel fit more, but it has AC, interior good quality floor, fans in every room and showers and bathtubs and 2 beds, so maybe not like a hovel you would imagine. Mansion ^_^

Its certainly larger than a cottage or a hovel, and smaller and less kept after than a mansion, its not a appartment, for a "house" its quite large. Perhaps the fact that one of the occupants is moving is throwing me off since there are many boxes around, thats proably it, the outer frame damage seems light and fixable with a single carpenter. Either way, im much better off here than in the homeless shelter so perhaps keep that in mind when you look at my hovel comment ^_^

There is the same distance of trees from the last picture of the backyard to the driveway as is from the front to the driveway so there is like an acre of trees there. Large yard.

Cyan has been pretty cool while being here. He is getting along very well with my dog Loki, and my mom's little dog.
He says I should cut back on eating out, which is a great idea. He has ideas for solar power and converting my truck into a hybrid
in order to save money. He is also doing yard work to help pay for the time he's here.

We drive into town pretty much every day because we've forgotten one thing or another. I keep forgetting to get screws to fix my shower
door handle. We had to get a new lawn chair because the old fabric one tore when Cyan was sitting in it, or getting up from it. And no,
    I'm heavier than he is.

He taught me a few Finnish insults, but I don't remember them. That language is so difficult. He laughs a lot, but not too much, usually at what's online.

He plays several games on my computer. We had to close the browsers cause they have a memory leak and it caused his games to crash.

I also learned about CBD oil, which is legal in all 50 states of the US, but not in Finland. It works great for my anxiety. I think I'm going to get a vape for it since I already ordered
a concentrated oil that has to be diluted. It totally takes away my craving for alcohol. If it works for schizophrenia, then it will save me money on my meds.
But I'm going to take that slow, and not rush it. It also gives me a warm glow and fuzzy feeling similar to alcohol, but not like alcohol. But just enough so that
I don't crave alcohol any longer. I don't miss the headaches and feeling like I was poisoned, and the throwing up. Plus one bottle of Whisky costs like $30 and lasts me only 3 days.
CBD oil also feels like ayahuasca except without the hallucinations. There is no psychedelic side to CBD. Thus it doesn't cause anxiety like THC would. It's also good for pain.

Well, enough about that. It's going well. I think he likes the nice headphones I have that he uses for gaming. He sometimes stays up later than I do, and plays games while I'm sleeping.
He likes the challenging ones it seems. Before my mom moves, he only has a couch to sleep on. We had to put boards under the seat cushons because it was too soft for him.
But at least his neck feels better from when he slept on his hard bed in Finland.

I'm glad he was able to make it through customs. He says next time (if there is one) it will be the same thing all over again. They kept him for an hour talking about his trip, and he
luckily didn't miss his flight. He was 15-20 minutes early, and he recognized me right away before I recognized him. It took me a few seconds at the airport to recognize him because
I'm not really good at identifying people from a photo.

I think that's good for this post. It's been maybe a week, not sure. Time is sure going fast. But good thing is I don't have to pay back my student loans because of my income level,
and am saving about $300/month with that. Cyan must think I'm weird that I drink coffee sometimes at midnight.

I also talked to Cyan about when I fall asleep I sometimes have to solve psychological puzzles that are abstract and hard to define. And when I don't solve them right, I get uncomfortable.
Cyan said that if you don't solve them right, you fall asleep. But if you do solve them right, on and on, you eventually meet God. So that was neat.

I really noticed he doesn't like his psych meds cause they just knock him out practically. It took a few days of energy drinks to wash them out of his system. He prefers the CBD oil cause
it helps with the anxiety which is his main issue I think.

Neck issues, the left side of my neck often locks up, i saw a chiropractor about it before it started to lock up but I got occasionaly very bad neckpains, i dont get the neck pains anymore but now it locks up really often and is "Kinda sore" near constantly, the chiropractor did a merging or what ever you call it on my left side where he pushed down on the head hard and it really started to hurt afterwards, positive is i no longer get headaches like im having a stroke but on the bad side it constantly locks up, i get a bit of back pain but nothing serious and i got right side kidney problems today and yesterday, felt sharp stinging pains allthrough my right kidney and it felt like i may have a kidney stone, it would make sense that all the junk from the homeless shelter washed out at the same time and almost locked my kidney up, but other than that doing good.

I've comitted to doing one work per day to improve the place and we mowed some of the lawn yesterday, i had one of those hedge trimmers and gemini was watching me work theres maybe 6-7 times more grass to mow still but the thing was heavy and my hands hurt now but the good kind of pain where the muscles are building, today we changed the water in the swimming tub in front that the dog uses so now its clean water and not mudwater, both tasks took about 15 minutes of hard work so im content with keeping up with that speed, it should land me in much better shape than when i came here. One work per day and we are thinking of writing a notelist of things we could do like take the car to a carwash and put a nice coat on it and so on, we've got quite a list of things we could do when you really think about it, and i like it, the work makes me feel like i have a place i can well focus on improving instead of living with bureocrats that always prevent good works, i couldnt even paint my room or change the curtains back at the homeless shelter so this is much freer, im also thinking of getting a green card as there are so many job availabilities here that working maybe a better idea than just getting 10 years more of education before i can find a job.

Anyway, we'll have pictures of the work tomorrow so we can, you know, brag furiously and share =D
