this is open source port of a very very horizon-widening game i played back in 1992. it was a chart topper by then, and since that time numerous publications acknowledged it as one of the best games ever made - some, the best game ever made even.
the catch here and its relevance to this forum of spiritual seekers is that, the game has an atmosphere and a story BEYOND what you can find in any of the entertainment, arts media that has been produced up till now. a rather outrageous claim, however, i really am making that claim.
the story told in this game will shatter a lot of barriers in your brain.
i am leaving aside all the other important facets, like excellent humor, wits and charm that the game fields.
when you install the game, you should choose your settings to be 'pc version' at all times, and turn voice acting off - it takes a lot away from the game atmosphere - the unique music for each starfaring race and their character will establish their own atmosphere enough.
when i played this game for the first time in my life back in 1994 summer, i basically lost the track of space-time continuum for a month. i was totally, totally out of this world for that 1 month duration.
i am suspecting that it prepared the grounds for breaking a lot of mental and cultural barriers and habitual thinking that are traits of our current planetary civilization in my mind.
a year later, i had had my initiation, and started on Ra material. i played this game countless times since then.
and on a sidenote - it has incomparable music.
