LAST CALL
"Love may have a blooming going into the shift, as it ought, those with great love in their hearts responding to the realization that little else matters."
--- STO Zetas
"Love is the strongest medicine. It is more powerful than electricity."
"Change is the way of the world, and if in this Kali Yuga (Dark Age) it has to go this way, let it go. Unless you are the Lord, you can't stop it anyway, so why berate it?"
"Whoever works for God, his work will be done by itself."
"God will give you everything you need for your spiritual development. Hold on to nothing."
"The best form to worship God is every form."
---- Neeb Karori Baba, "Maharajji"
"OUTLOOK -- Since Sufism is based upon the realisation of truth by the Sufis, its outlook cannot change, though its superficial projection may appear to change. Teaching methods differ in accordance with cultural conditions. In other systems, it is the outlook of the philosophical school which undergoes variation. This ‘has a great significance in attesting to the ancient roots of the Sufi Way. It indicates that whereas in the progress of history the outlook of other philosophical doctrines has changed according to environments, the Sufi ideals have remained patent to the original form in adhering to the conception of a comprehensiveness without a frontier’ (The Sirdar Ikbal Ali Shah, Islamic Sufism, London, 1933, p. 10).
Accustomed to looking at philosophy as a makeshift, a groping toward truth, changing in accordance with the acquisition of mere information, there are few people nowadays who can even grasp the assertion that there is an ultimate truth against which everything can be measured, and which is accessible to man."
"Detach from fixed ideas and preconceptions. And face what is to be your lot.
(Sheikh Abu-Said Ibn Abi-Khair)"
--- Idries Shah, The Sufis (1964)
"AFFECTION AND REGARD -- It is possible to have great affection and regard for individuals and groups of people without in any way reducing one's awareness of their currently poor capacity for understanding and preserving their heritage.
The present state of ignorance about distant and former cultures is not unique to this time. Unfortunately, though, the people of our time are not employing their superior resources to retrieve and develop the remnants of wider knowledge possessed elsewhere and also at other times.
This is because, while the tools and the general freedom are there for the first time, desire, resolution and breadth of vision are absent, also for the first time.
The endowment is therefore at risk. For the first time.”
--Idries Shah, Reflections (1968)
NASRUDIN ENCOUNTERS AN INQUISITIVE FELLOW TRAVELER EN ROUTE, & MISCHIEVOUSLY OFFERS SOME GRATUITOUS PERSONAL INFORMATION
"How are you?"
"Perfect, thank you. I'm traveling incognito."
"Oh? As what are you disguised?"
"I am disguised as myself."
"What?! Don't be silly! That's no disguise-- that's who you are!"
"On the contrary, it must be a very good disguise, for I see it has fooled you completely."
THE GREAT POETS RUMI & YUNUS TALK SHOP
When Rumi asked Yunus what he thought of his 6-book masterpiece, the Masnavi-I Ma'navi ['Rhyming Couplets of Profound Spiritual Meaning'], Yunus simply said, "It's a little long. I would have written it differently." "Oh, how so?" Rumi asked. "I would have written: I came from eternity, clothed myself with skin and bones, and called myself 'Yunus'."
"We and all our existences are non-entities. Thou art the absolute being whose appearance is transitory."
--- Idries Shah & other Sufis, various sources
In every state, the Heart is my support:
In this kingdom of existence it is my sovereign.
When I tire of the treachery of Reason--
God knows I am grateful to my Heart...
-- Persian Quatrains of Ustad Khalilullah Khalili (1975)
"Even the most unhappy of experiences, shall we say, which seem to occur in the Catalyst of the adept, seen from the viewpoint of the spirit, may, with the discrimination possible in shadow, be worked with until light equaling the light of brightest noon descends upon the adept and positive or service-to-others illumination has occurred. The service-to-self adept will satisfy itself with the shadows and, grasping the light of day, will toss back the head in grim laughter, preferring the darkness."
"Q: I am assuming that it is not necessary for an individual to
understand the Law of One to go from the third to the fourth density. Is
this correct?
Ra: I am Ra. It is absolutely necessary that an entity consciously realize it does not understand in order for it to be harvestable. Understanding is not of this density."
--- Those of Ra
"There comes a time in the affairs of man when he must take the bull by the tail and face the situation."
--- W. C. Fields
"We doctors know
a hopeless case if --- listen: there's a hell
of a good universe next door; let's go"
---E. E. Cummings, 'pity this busy monster, manunkind'
ENCANTADA
Just as flowers aflight career upwards to light,
So too leave the years upon my soul vaporish trails of firefly blazes.
Wonderful the soul's ascent!
Wonderful the mind's assent!
Blunderful though it be to the mind's eye's sight -- all is right!
All is right.
But still: strive against the night --
And fly!
