I've made some progress, but the bad energies around me (the "I want, I want, I want" energies from the non-spiritually awakened) really exhaust me at the office. When I'm at home it's easy to say to the angels "I have an open heart and I invite you in."
Trying to keep the heart open by brute force can only go so far, in my opinion.
Maybe instead of seeing it as though you must keep an open heart in spite of the "I want, I want, I want" energies around you, why not question how these energies can act as catalyst which opens the heart?
For example, why do you classify the "I want, I want, I want" energies as "bad"? Is there no virtue in knowing what you want and going after it? Can't you identify the same energetic movements in yourself (even if you desire other things), thereby finding some way to relate to the humans around you? Can you find nothing endearing about it (much like how endearing a toddler, which stomps his feet and scrunches his face in order to get a cookie, can be)?
The heart, delicate and precious, cannot be forced to perform. It is up to the mind to balance the biases (the unacceptable) in order to allow the way of the heart which loves unconditionally.
However, the heart does not need to be open 100% of the time. I think it's OK to be a "regular" person every now and then.
