Just because the mother wasn't intentionally trying to exploit doesn't mean her act is positively polarizing.
Also I think you're projecting norms from turkey or something on to big parts of the world. Did you forget about Japan?
People may have good intentions when they're being mean but that doesn't make it a proper, effective, helpful or beneficial behaviour. Sure, on some level everything is fate and it's all working out for the best. But you need to keep it clear which level you're talking about. Child abuse, honestly intended to help the child, is not spiritually skillful behaviour.
