Can someone explain this scene from the Matrix to me?

He has been down that road before, but why wouldn't he want to be down it again?

He knows exactly where it ends. What does that mean?

One road is back to reality as he knew it (leaving the car) & the other road (staying in the car & being compliant) is obviously the road to the (endless) rabbit hole.

Thanks. I thought the end of the road was death, but I couldn't see any reason for him to have died.

If reality was the Matrix I probably would rather remain ignorant too. If there were no higher density to aspire to.

yeap. i don't think there's any nobility in "reality" for reality's sake. there should be a better reason to forsake steak for infinite oatmeal.

It means he would return to seeking, and thus return to confusion and being lost. Neo was looking for Morpheus (higher self) and they were taking Neo to him. If he had've left, it would have been like trying to ignore one's own process of awakening and a return to the cycles of ignorant living. Thus, Neo had to have faith that he was being lead to the truth in order to contact Morpheus. Everything had to be by his own choice, that is the only way someone's mind can be properly freed from the Matrix.

He knew exactly where one road would take him & the other not so much. He chose the unknown over comfort.

Also, comfort for me is like water. You always appreciate it more when you haven't had enough of it.

The road is the same hum drum existence he's always known.  To do the same thing over and over again, and expect different results is insanity.

To grow, you have to pursue the unknown, else face eternal stagnation.  Then again, anyone who stagnates for long enough will eventually come to long for change very intensely, so interestingly, being in a repetitive environment naturally eventually stirs up the very energy needed to break out of the box of ordinary.  This has metaphysical implications, too, and is one of the main reasons why the trance state allows you to cross reality boundaries.  A certain energy is stirred up by repetition which allows opportunities to change to manifest.

Basically, she is telling him that he can go back down the road of the system or continue on with his awakening. To go further in depth, you could say that she is a symbol of his higher self or guide.
