Alcohol is many things, but one of it's most observed features is that it 'loosens one up'.  In more psychological terms, it's an 'uninhibitor'.  Because of social norms and values, there is much that we keep bottled inside, that isn't 'right' or 'safe' to express - as perceived by the individual.  Add some alcohol to the mix, and a social setting that is more liberal and permissive, and these suppresed aspects can find a fluent outlet.

Alcohol can bring out the easy breazy smiling side.  That's what we look for when we are with friends.  But some things that are inhibited can also tend to the dark and even nasty.  But even there, a kind of 'honesty' can be perceived if those are allowed expression, and free witness.

This post, however, is sharing some of the lighter brighter aspects that alcohol can bring out.

I'm not so sure about this - I mean, I get like that just from cheese alone!

It's funny I think in everyday life I operate at a 1-2 drinks inhibition level while sober.
Put a camera on me and I quickly become the person in the top left corner.

2 things I learned from this.
I now understand why 1 drink takes me as far towards uninhibited as I need to go. Smile

Second thing... Anytime I need my picture taken I think I will require prepayment in alcohol. Smile

    Interesting photos thanks for sharing.

I think any drug YOU LIKE will do that. Lol but if I want to get border line buzzed/drunk....1 can of 4 Loko does the trick followed by a tall boy of whatever beer. Gotta watch those calories and sugar content in the 4 Lokos though.

I usually turn into a borderline-rage-monster at about 5-7 drinks. Luckily by the time I go full rage I'm too drunk to think and just shut-down. Drinking is fun

    Awesome post!

Apart from being able to identify with some of the smiles, especially where red wine is concerned, what I also find fascinating in these pics are the varying levels of social apprehension. Some folks find that place of ease with just one glass of wine, while others need 2 or 3.

The tension of being human seems to effect us in different ways. Most notably to me is where one individual doesn't truly smile until after the 3rd glass of wine, and yet they appeared fine in the first picture. Almost like they have tried really hard to look good all there lives and have all but perfected the act.

It reminds me of my own social ineptitude  :-/

I keep looking at the spark missing from their eyes in the first shots. The mask they project is so heavy you cannot see "them".

Of course there are two that look like they crossed the spark threshold at one drink.
Maybe they are the more naturally uninhibited of the group.
